A Round Up of Resources for Women
Over the course of this year, many of us have felt disconnected, lonely, unsure, and out of touch – both spiritually and relationally. It’s been a challenging year for everyone, and we miss the strong community that FBC Women’s Ministry has!
Below you will find a list of resources to help carry you into the fall and winter ahead, as we look to God, our hope and our constant companion. Though 2020 may have made us weary, God will continue to be our refuge. Thank you, Lord.
Women of the Word: How to Study the Bible With Both Our Minds and Our Hearts by Jen Wilkin … “We all know it’s important to study God’s word. But sometimes it’s hard to know where to start. What’s more, a lack of time, emotionally driven approaches, and past frustrations can erode our resolve to keep growing in our knowledge of Scripture. How can we, as Christian women, keep our focus and sustain our passion when reading the Bible? Women of the Word has helped countless women with a clear and concise plan they can use every time they open their Bible. This book will equip you to engage God’s word in a way that trains your mind and transforms your heart.” (If you attended our IF conference in 2019, you received a copy! Also available in the church library for checkout.)
Get Out of Your Head: Stopping the Spiral of Toxic Thoughts by Jennie Allen … “In Get Out of Your Head, Jennie inspires and equips us to transform our emotions, our outlook, and even our circumstances by taking control of our thoughts. Our enemy is determined to get in our heads to make us feel helpless, overwhelmed, and incapable of making a difference for the kingdom of God. But when we submit our minds to Christ, the promises and goodness of God flood our lives in remarkable ways.”
Be The Bridge: Understanding God’s Heart for Racial Reconciliation by Latasha Morrison … “In an era where we seem to be increasingly divided along racial lines, many are hesitant to step into the gap, fearful of saying or doing the wrong thing. At times the silence, particularly within the church, seems deafening. But change begins with an honest conversation among a group of Christians willing to give a voice to unspoken hurts, hidden fears, and mounting tensions. These ongoing dialogues have formed the foundation of a global movement called Be the Bridge—a nonprofit organization whose goal is to equip the church to have a distinctive and transformative response to racism and racial division. In this perspective-shifting book, founder Latasha Morrison shows how you can participate in this incredible work and replicate it in your own community. With conviction and grace, she examines the historical complexities of racism. She expertly applies biblical principles, such as lamentation, confession, and forgiveness, to lay the framework for restoration.”
Praying God’s Word by Beth Moore …“Praying God’s Word is the perennial favorite Scripture-prayer resource designed to help us decisively overcome specific strongholds: pride, idolatry, addiction, loss, depression, unbelief, temptation, and more. No matter how overwhelmed or out of control a person may feel today, Beth boldly reminds us that nothing is bigger or more powerful than the Lord. With this landmark book we learn to wield the sword of the Spirit, praying God’s Word to break free from anything that has a hold on us until the joy and authority of Christ rules in our lives.”
Forgiving What You Can’t Forget: Discover How to Move On, Make Peace with Painful Memories, and Create a Life That’s Beautiful Again by Lysa TerKeurst … “Have you ever felt stuck in a cycle of unresolved pain, playing offenses over and over in your mind? You know you can’t go on like this, but you don’t know what to do next. Lysa TerKeurst has wrestled through this journey. But in surprising ways, she’s discovered how to let go of bound-up resentment and overcome the resistance to forgiving people who aren’t willing to make things right. Lysa’s Biblical application will walk you through freedom from past wrongs.”
Discerning the Voice of God by Priscilla Shrier … “Through 7 sessions, discover the root to clear and daily communication with God—humble obedience. Learn how surrender unlocks His many blessings intended for us, centers us in His will, and helps us discern His voice in everyday life.”
The Good Gospel: Understand the Greatest News You’ve Ever Heard … “Do we know we have already been rescued and have hope? So many of us claim to know the gospel, but sometimes we can forget what it actually means for our lives. In The Good Gospel, we will be reminded that: Because of the gospel, we can experience life with God. Because of the gospel, we are free from sin and death. Because of the gospel, we have an eternal hope no matter what happens. In this six-week study with Jennie Allen, Jamie Ivey, and Jackie Hill Perry, we are going to explore the foundation of our faith to discover how God brings us from death to life, from fallen to free.”
Savor the Savior Advent Bible Study …“This 31-day devotion uses the song O Come, Let Us Adore Him as a basis for each week of study. We’ll walk through Scripture that corresponds to each stanza in the song for the study.”
